ROSA PARKS
One day, a highschool
student was on a bus,her name was Claudette. A man then got on the bus and told
Claudette to stand up because he wanted to sit down. Claudette didn’t want to
give the man her seat, so the driver stopped the bus and called the police. The
police handcuffed and arrested Claudette. It was 1955 in the state of Alabama,
USA. But why? Because Claudette was black and the man was white. Another black
woman called Rosa Parks, helped Claudette. She fought for civil rights. “Always
do what is right”, she told Claudette. So later that year, Rosa was on a bus
and a white man wanted to sit down. Rosa didn’t stand up so the driver called
the police and they arrested Rosa. Why didn’t you give your seat to the man? A
reported asked Rosa. “Were you tired?” Rosa answered: “I wasn’t tired
physically. I was tired of the injustice.”

THIRD GRADE
Week 2
Coronavirus and Sports – level 2
Coronavirus
affects many sports around the world. Local governments make tough restrictions to contain the
coronavirus, and they stop all large public gatherings.
In
Italy, people cannot go to watch football matches. The English football league
stops. Arsenal is one of the biggest English football teams, and its coach has
a positive test for the coronavirus. The club must close its training ground.
An
NBA player had a positive test for the coronavirus. He said that he was not
responsible, and he apologized for it.
Coronavirus
could affect the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, too. The President of the
Olympics committee said that he will not cancel the Olympics. However, there
could be some changes.
Difficult words: public gathering (when a lot of
people meet in one place at the same time), restriction (an official
rule that controls or limits something), contain (to control).
